Green Man has always been about helping the good stuff happen – from supporting emerging artists and offering professional training, to getting folks engaged with science and bringing about positive change in our local communities.

Our charitable arm, the Green Man Trust was created to give these projects a life of their own, at the festival and all year round...

Music Development

The Trust supports the annual Green Man Rising band competition, established to nurture the headliners of tomorrow...

  • 3,000+ applications every year
  • 190 music creators every year
  • Judged by top industry tastemakers including MOJO, Bella Union, Domino Records, Moshi Moshi, Kilimanjaro, NME, Guardian among many others
  • Rising acts have gone on to receive nominations for Best Album of the Year, features in Rolling Stone, recordings in Maida Vale Studios for the BBC, and signed to Domino Records, Rough Trade and ATC Live

Performing Arts Development

Visual Arts Development

The Trust develops artists & engages them with new audiences...

  • 80 artists since 2014
  • 20 paid artist residencies
  • 29 paid commissions (new & reconfigured)
  • UK-wide partnerships with FACT, Forma, QUAD, g39, Southwark Park Galleries, Glynn Vivian Gallery, Somerset House, Mechatronic Library among many others.

Training Projects

Our training programmes target: young people from hard-to-reach backgrounds; those starting on their professional journey; refugees & asylum seekers; and vulnerable adults recovering from addiction:

  • 85 refugees & asylum seekers from Oasis Cardiff
  • 50+ students from Merthyr College on our media training programme
  • 27 paid work placements for Cardiff University students
  • 30 residents from the Salvation Army
  • 24 students from University of South Wales

Community Grants

The charity runs campaigns to support both local and international communities:

  • £20,000 in Community Grants in 2024 to support local groups such as sports clubs, schools and town halls
  • Donated £10,000 in local grants to support Welsh community projects in 2023
  • Donated £15,750 to support 63 households devastated by the Storm Dennis floods in 2020
  • Donated £13,000 in 2022 to local food banks to help those affected by the cost of living and energy crisis
  • Donated £3,000 to help support Ukrainian victims of war and displacement

Science Engagement

The charity supports science engagement in Einstein’s Garden, where science gatecrashes arts, comedy, circus, music, and theatre.

  • 200+ groundbreaking projects by leading scientists and researchers taken off the ground
  • 3 stages run on renewable energy
  • Transforming the way 200,000+ people engage with science in their every day
  • Partnerships with Wellcome Trust, Kings College, Research Council UK, Cancer Research, Tenovus Cancer Care, Institute of Physics, Institute of Engineering and Technology, Met Office, Imperial College London, University of Bristol, University College London, University of Exeter, Cardiff University, Swansea University, Aberystwyth University
