Westside Cowboy

A west side cowboy was a horse-mounted signalman employed in 1900s New York City to slow down oncoming freight trains. Yet Manchester’s Westside Cowboy show no such signs of deceleration. The band only started releasing music last year, and now they’re headlining venues such as Scala and heading out on tour with Geese. They call their music “Britainicana”: a mix of the American cultural diet all Brits grow up on, and the music of all four corners of the UK and Ireland — think folk, skiffle, country, frenzied punk, and ramshackle alt-rock, all with a distinctively British humour and underpinned by sweet melodies, “like someone trying to sing a lullaby while sprinting”.
