Cardiff musician and songwriter Gareth Bonello spent a year off-grid in the Cambrian Mountains writing his latest album Elan, a psychedelic folk exploration of the landscapes and history of the Cwm Elan, which was flooded in the 19th century to create reservoirs for drinking water for English cities. Prolific and prominent, he’s won both the Welsh Language Album of the Year and the Welsh Music Prize. Alongside his usual cello, piano, and guitar are synth, strings. and global influences including Rajasthani folk, the songs haunted by plenty of those Welsh valley ghosts.
