Sophie Harris began Modern Woman as a solo project that she debuted at her spoken word nights. It’s since mushroomed into a full-band effort, fronted by the London songwriter, and fuelled by experimental art rock, post-punk, and 1960s folk, marrying the tenderness of folk with “heavier and weirder elements”. Modern Woman releases their debut album Johnny’s Dreamworld this year, which takes a fine tooth comb to the rawer side of femininity and the tussle between loud and quiet, scrappy and polished.
