Awdl

Awdl (meaning ‘an ode’ in Welsh) are a folk duo from the South Wales valleys, creating bilingual songs that blend traditional hymns, revolutionary folk, and lyrical storytelling. With intimate harmonies that drift between the ghostly and the bittersweet, Awdl invites their listeners into a world where the past and present intertwine.

Inspired by poets such as Idris Davies, whose ‘The Bells of Rhymney’ gave a voice to the Welsh working class, and Chris Torrance, whose ‘The Magic Door’ series mapped the mythic heart of the valleys, Awdl’s work echoes both rebellion and reverence. They are currently writing their debut album, exploring themes of belonging and loss in a changing homeland.
